500,000 teaching jobs’ portal gets 35million hits

403,528 applicants registered in 36 hours
Thirty-five million applicants have hit the Federal Government’s social investment teaching job website since it became operational on Sunday.
This was disclosed by a statement issued on Monday by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Laolu Akande.
The portal was opened in order to receive applications towards filling 500,000 direct teaching jobs scheme.
The statement also revealed that 400,000 applicants were successfully registered for the teaching jobs within the first 36 hours the website began operation.
It reads: “The newly launched Jobs portal of the Federal Government “N-Power. gov.ng,” has recorded over 400,000 successful registrations since it opened for submissions at on Sunday, June 12, 2016, according to the Job Creation Unit in the Presidency.
“We have been very impressed by the enthusiastic response to the call for applications. As at noon on Monday June 13, only 36 hours after the launch of the portal, 403, 528 applicants had successfully registered on the site and were in the middle of completing the application process,” the statement quoted the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Job Creation, Mr. Afolabi Imoukhede, .
“We are also very pleased that the registrations have been taking place without any hitches or system failures, considering the volume of response.”
“All together the website has received over 35 million hits since Saturday midnight.”
After the the online application, screening and shortlisting will be carried out.
The Jobs Scheme, known as ‘N-Power’, is one of the five initiatives of the Social Investment Programmes, for which the Federal Government has allocated N500 billion in the 2016 Budget.
N-Power is designed to help young Nigerians acquire and develop life-long skills to become solution providers in their communities and to become players in the domestic and global markets.
It will provide employment opportunities for 500,000 graduates as teachers, agriculture extension advisers, healthcare assistants, and civic and adult education instructors in communities across Nigeria.
There will also be a pool of 100,000 software developers, hardware service professionals, animators, graphic artists, building services professionals, artisans and others.
The statement also assured that the application process would not only be structurally robus, transparent and fair, but that the selection process would also be based on objective criteria that has nothing to do with party affiliations.
“Unemployed Nigerians both graduate and non-graduates would be drawn from across the country on state by state basis in the final analysis.” It added

Alligator Snatches 2-Yr-Old Boy

Police are searching for a toddler who was dragged into the water by an alligator near Disney World's flagship Grand Floridian resort in Orlando after a movie night and fireworks on the beach. The hotel is a high end luxury resort owned by Disney. The Alligator clenched its jaws around the two-year-old and pulled the child into a nearby lagoon. Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Rose Silva said the toddler was last seen at 9.30pm being dragged into the Seven Seas Lagoon by the alligator. Police are searching the waters and have put crime-scene tape around the water. It is one of three hotels linked by the park’s monorail line and just one stop away from the Magic Kingdom Park. The child's name was not available. It was not known if the child or his family were guests at the hotel.
